P.H.S.C.E

The teaching of R.E. is also a statutory requirement

We aim to ensure that we achieve a balance between the routine and the exciting. Children do need repetition in order to learn some necessary basic skills. They also need a stimulating environment where they are given sufficient opportunities to solve problems, to check pieces of work, which are unique to them, and to follow up their own questions and interests.

The education of your child is the sum total of many teachers’ efforts. It is important that each teacher builds effectively on what has gone before. Staff spend a great deal of time working together developing whole school policies and teaching approaches in all aspects of the curriculum which seem most beneficial for our pupils.

All of the children from the four to five year olds (reception) to the eleven year olds (Year 6) follow a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum, which has been planned around the National Curriculum subjects.

The School Curriculum also includes Health Education, Equal Opportunities, Personal & Social Education and Religious Education.

Much of our teaching, and the children’s learning, is achieved through thematic topic work as we believe the organisation of the National Curriculum in this way makes more real sense to the children, enhances motivation, improves the quality of work and develops important attitudes and life skills.

Literacy and Numeracy are taught as separate subjects following the Literacy and Numeracy Strategies.
