Sound Workshop

On Monday 13th March we took part in a workshop to introduce our new topic of Sound. We learnt a lot and had great fun learning about different aspects of sound.

Sound is created when something is vibrating. Sound travels in soundwaves to our ears. Here, Rosa is moving a slinky up and down to demonstrate how soundwaves travel.

Cayce and Jessica are trying to find out if sound travels through solid materials. Jessica could feel the vibrations against her stomach proving that sound travels through solids.

The shorter the stick, the higher the sound. The longer the stick, the lowere the sound. We had great fun dropping these sticks to the floor to prove how the length of a stick affects the pitch.

It worked on this slate xylophone too!

... and with these pan pipes!

... and when Adam played the pipes with a flip-flop

Ruben found out that the tighter the string, the higher the sound. The strings on his guitar became tighter as Sam filled the bottle with water.

Sam demonstrated how to change the length of the pipe of the tuba to change the sound.
